Banking is an obvious area where there is a need for record management. However, the use of computers in banks and stock exchanges is much more intensive than is usual elsewhere, as computers may be the medium by which trade is performed; that is, the exchange of data by computers is replacing the exchange of paper bonds.
The use of computers to mediate the exchange between bank and customer is also growing: for example, the use of Automated Teller Machines to withdraw cash, check personal bank records and to make a direct transfers to other accounts.
