Empowering Minds: CAS and COC join hands for Prison Awareness Week

The College of Arts and Sciences, in a collaboration with the College of Criminology, took a significant step toward community engagement during the Prison Awareness Week organized by the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology in Iligan City.

Together, they facilitated an eye-opening seminar-workshop that aimed to shed light on the importance of mental well-being in the lives of those within the penal system.

CAS Faculty Member, Ms. Mae Rachelle Pingke, delivered an impactful talk titled “Workshop in Psychological First Aid: Supporting Yourself and Others.” The workshop covered key aspects of Psychological First Aid, including validating and normalizing feelings, identifying common reactions to distressing events, calming down and controlling one’s emotions, and discovering sources of inner strength.

We express our heartfelt gratitude to the PDLs and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology – Iligan City for their warm welcome and the opportunity to contribute to this transformative event.
